The Saint
Never reveal your name. Never turn your back. Never surrender your heart.
Val Kilmer plays suave espionage hero Simon Templar--aka The Saint--and Elisabeth Shue costars in this atmospheric mix of bold adventure and grand romance. An array of sophisticated gadgetry is at Templar's command as he plunges into a cloak-and-dagger netherworld of move and countermove. Cool, too, is Templar's knack for coming up with the right disguise at the right time. Now you see him. Now you don't...or do you? Each close-call escape is a breathless miracle--and no one knows miracles better than a saint.

Fun to Watch - Newgrange
This was a really fun one to watch for a couple of reasons:
First, I like Val Kilmer and Elisabeth Shue.
Secondly, they work well together and the love story is pretty good.
Thirdly, it's as fun, and as funny, as hell to watch Kilmer's disguises, and the effects they have on the bad guys.
Basically, it's just a lot of fun with a happy ending, and that's something you don't usually get in a single package. I recommend it.Top Notch Espionage Action-Thriller - newdaysof
I give The Saint a resounding 5 stars for being an excellent action-thriller filmed on location in London, Cambridge and Moscow. Val Kilmer demonstrates his amazing acting ability with his many disguises, accents and impersonations as well as the many stunts and action sequences he performs. He really rocks as a James-Bond-type personality and with his great looks and charisma is even better than Bond. Elizabeth Shue is also fantastic in her role as the attractive, but introverted scientist. Her presence lights up the screen every time and she has the best smile of any actress in film. The romance, chemistry and sexual tension between Val and Elizabeth is simply electrifying. Never before can I remember two actors give such sizzling romance scenes as these two in this movie.
The plot, characters, locations and action sequences are top-notch. The scenes filmed in Moscow are particularly interesting because they showcase much of the incredible beauty and at times grittiness of the city.
Some of the songs and soundtrack are hauntingly beautiful and create the perfect mood of romance, intrigue and excitement as required.
My only complaint about this movie is it employs two very worn-out cliches: the Russian mafia trying to steal "the secret formula" and the thief stealing the "million-dollar microchip". But all is forgiven because every other aspect of the film is so good. There even is a cameo voice-over by the original TV "Saint", Roger Moore, as well as the original Saint jingle and lapel pin.
The Saint could easily have been a franchise as successful as the Bond series.Well used post-glasnost Russian setting - Superdave
This movie might actually be more interesting viewed now as a 90s period piece than when it first came out in the real 90s. Since most of the movie takes place in post-glasnost Moscow, albeit with icy Canada often standing in for wintry Mother Russia, the viewer gets a nice sketch of the effects of the end of the cold war on the people and economy of the former Soviet Union.
As an industrial espionage thriller, The Saint is fairly predictable, but Val Kilmer has fun with his character's master-of-disguise schtick playing several neat cameos within the film that re-defined gentleman adventurer Simon Templar for the 90s. Shue makes a credible appearance as a sheltered academic everywoman dragged into intrigue beyond her previous experience.
As an added treat, this movie also features the 90s-topical idea of cold fusion, now long since de-bunked.
