The Salton Sea
If you're looking for the truth, you've come to the wrong place.
She was in the wrong place and the wrong time and, then, she was no more. Jazzman Danny Parker's wife was murdered, and Danny was powerless to prevent it. Now the heartbroken Danny is on the skids, lost among the derelict tweakers of L.A. Or is he? In Danny's world nothing- most of all Danny -is what it seems.
Mystery runs deep in The Salton Sea. So does the talent behind this dreamlike thriller written by Tony Gayton (Murder by Numbers) and stylishly directed by D.J. Caruso. Val Kilmer is spellbinding as Danny, a man adrift in a sea of lowlifes (played by Vincent D'Onofrio, Anthony LaPaglia and many more)- yet hovering on the razor's edge of dangerous revenge.

Kilmer once again Amazes - MediWatcher
This movie is an artfull weaving of both the dark subculture of drugs and addiction and a beautiful love that ends tragidy, becoming vengance. Val kilmer does an amazing job of creating a carachter that has become so deep in his role, he can barely recognize who he once was. The other actors to an amazing job as well setting aa stage ripe with the quirks of people riddled by drug addiction. It also shows people that go against the cliche of the drug crazed lunatic. Definatly worth watching.Depressing Movie - newdaysof
I rented this movie because it seemed to have an interesting plot and I am a fan of Val Kilmer. Well, Val was good as usual, but overall the movie was very depressing, disturbing and didn't cover any new ground.
The story started out fairly intriguing but quickly devolved into yet another LA-based drug-dealer/corrupt cop/avenging boyfriend shoot-em-up with plenty of human depravity, self-loathing and hopelessness thrown in. Why does Hollywood keep falling back on the same tired, boring, unimaginative drugs/guns/violence/corrupt cops schtick? How many thousands of movies have been made with similar themes?
The Salton Sea is a beautiful inland sea in southern California and it could have been the backdrop for a beautiful, inspiring, uplifting, imaginative movie, but Hollywood doesn't have any imagination anymore. Just the same sausage factory of guns, violence, death and depravity. But hey, the actors are good looking!Very good movie, definitely a worthy rental - pete5
This is one of my favourite movies. The movie is well paced, with an interesting, sad and funny look at the world of 'tweakers'. Visually very well done as well, the gritty run down surroundings complimenting the overall tone of the movie.
Also, the performances by Kilmer, Debra Unger, and Vincent Dinofrio are excellent, with a great supporting cast as well. At times laugh out loud funny, at other times sad, definitely worth seeing.
