I rarely turn off movies about 15min in..this was one of them. - YPlovesmovies
..and that says a LOT for someone who's a huge fan of Robert Downey Jr. wow!! I couldnt stand this movie at all, and didnt understand it at all. its like watching somoeone's weird, bizarre, full of rubish, twisted dream make its way somehow into a movie...WHY i ask?? ugh. skip it, seriously.
p.s. i normally have a pretty good tolerance for blood and gorr and such, and can eat my meal at the same time as watching surgeries on tv, yet, for some odd reason (maybe cause the special effects were so bad) seeing RDJ all burned like that from head to toe made me gag. I just couldnt focus on anything else.fun loving disposible flick - Ssara
I had a great time watching this movie. It follows Dan Dark and his hospitalization for psorisis. The singing pushes the limit though- almost too much to handle and it really doesn't add much more value to the movie after the first couple of diddies. Robin Wright Penn is amazing and so sexy in this flick. I think that this was during robert downey juniors drug induced stupor but it is films like this that make zip so great. i might not have rented it but i thouraly enjoyed it. if you like rdj i would recommened kiss kiss bang bang.2 Stars - bleuorchid21
The story revolves around Dan Dark, a novelist who is being hospitalized with psoriasis. While there, he is constantly mixing reality with fiction, mainly from The Singing Detective, a novel he wrote.
The movie itself is a bit confusing, as Dark has flashbacks of his childhood mixed with characters from his novel. He has hallucinations, which cause the characters to break out into musical numbers, with songs like "Mr. Sandman."
I am the type of person that enjoys film noirs and murder mysteries, but this just was all over the place. It was an alright film with a well-known cast, but I personally enjoy Robert Downey's other film noir, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, more.
