The Stepford Wives
Something Strange Is Happening In The Town Of Stepford.
Joanna (Katharine Ross) reluctantly moves with her husband and children from New York City to the suburban community of Stepford, Connecticut. But when life in Stepford begins to seem too perfect, Joanna and her new friend Bobby (Paula Prentiss) investigate a mysterious conspiracy among the town's husbands. Are this suburb's women happy to be vapid homemakers or is there a more shocking secret behind the domestic perfection of The Stepford Wives?
Twenty five years after its original release, The Stepford Wives remains a legendary combination of chilling chauvinist horror and savage social commentary. Peter Masterson, Tina Louise, Nanette Newman and Mary Stuart Masterson (in her film debut) co-star in this controversial cult thriller based on the best-selling novel by Ira Levin (author of Rosemary's Baby), presented in a sparkling new widescreen transfer that Entertainment Weekly hails as "shiny as a Stepford kitchen floor."

Pretty good for the 70's - nobbymcdobby
This blew away the terrible remake from a few years back. Genuinely creeped me out. A nice time machine ride to the awesome era of the seventies. It would be great if that was a real town. I would totally move there and replace my wife by a robot. Awesome. I wonder if this was a book. Probably would have been all right.Very Good Suspense - rudy123
A suspense movie that does not utilize excessive special effects. The acting is superb, by our main actress. She is smart and very aware of her surroundings. Slowing she is coming to figure out what is happening to her new friends. Will she do it soon enough is the question...
Nice to have a movie without the blood splashing!Excellent, imaginative made-for-tv movie - NotRogerEbert
While I enjoyed the recent remake, I think the original is superior. Originally made in the 70s (I think), this movie has aged surprisingly well. It deals with a semi-classic theme (sexism) in an extremely imaginative way, and while it's not a comedy (certainly not in the obvious way that the remake was) it is darkly funny at times, and cleverly satirizes stereotypical attitudes of both men and women. Clever, funny, and, particularly if you don't already know the story, effectively creepy.
