Set in the 1930s, this intricate comedy caper deals with an ambitious smalltime crook and a veteran con man who seek revenge on the vicious crime lord who murdered one of their gang. A lot of fun! - ShawnConnery
Comedy, suspense, adventure, intrigue, and just plain old fun greet you as you watch this movie. I've never actually seen a movie like this, with title cards and interesting transitions. The characters are memorable, and I was especially impressed with my first Paul Newman experience, which was really good. The music is awesome and so is the acting, and the story and twists...great.One of the best caper films ever - CanCinephile
"The Sting" is the type of film that was so highly influential that you almost wonder why anyone would bother trying to create the same feel. Films like "Ocean's Eleven", despite being a remake of the original, heavily borrowed off of the feel of "The Sting" and many of the modern buddy cop/robber films of today do the same.
You cannot duplicate the natural chemistry of Newman and Redford, however, no matter how hard you try. They are the perfect measuring stick for chemistry among actors in Hollywood and "The Sting" illustrates that they are able to knock it out of the park despite having an average script.
That's right, "The Sting" while a classic as we know it, would likely be nothing if not for the two leads and the awesome supporting cast. The script often falters and blunders, but Redford and Newman make it sing. For this reason, this is required viewing for anyone into film or acting; they simply take an average piece of work and make it tremendous.A wonderfull film. - Cfser
With actors like Robert Redford and Paul Newman you cant really go wrong, But when you put them together you get excelence. This movie has a great plot. A great job was done on the set to recreate the era.
I wouldd't call this film a comedy though there are definitly some laughs.
I have and continue to recomend this film!
