The Wicker Man
The American Theatrical Version Of The Modern Horror Masterpiece
When a young girl mysteriously disappears, Police Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward of The Equalizer) travels to a remote Scottish island to investigate. But this pastoral community, led by the strange Lord Summerisle (a brilliant performance by the legendary Christopher Lee), is not what it seems as the devout Christian detective soon uncovers a secret society of wanton lust and pagan blasphemy. Can Howie now stop the cult's ultimate sacrifice before he himself comes face-to-face with the horror of The Wicker Man?
Britt Ekland, Diane Cilento and Ingrid Pitt co-star in this provocative shocker written by Anthony Shaffer (Sleuth, Frenzy) that fans and critics worldwide still consider a true cult classic and modern horror masterpiece. This is the acclaimed U.S. theatrical version of The Wicker Man, now fully restored from original vault materials for the first time ever.

This is your Halloween movie pick right here! Creepy paganism at its finest - Scopitone
Hands down one of the best horror films of all time. But don't rent it if you're a Saw horror fan franchise - it will seem too tame and weird for you, I'm sure.
Amazing, creepy, pagan horror film that is beautifully filmed with some of the best set design and costumes. You can't really say much more without ruining the plot but definitley do not rent the Nicolas Cage version - this is the one you want for your thoughtful little horror night for Halloween!A great movie, but this is the crippled version - greenfatigue
This is a disturbing and affecting movie - not so much in the main plot but in the little details. The world of this movie is so normal and comfortable (in a kind of 70s retro way) but yet so sharply and excitingly different from normality. The religion of the islanders is in many ways very attractive. The music (particularly "Gently Jonny" and "Willow's Song") is extremely evocative and really quite sexual. All in all, this is a great movie.
But not this version. This is the "one day" cut of the movie, widely regarded as being a disasterous commercial decision back in the day. The "two day" cut, which is more than 100 minutes, tells a story which makes more sense, and has some of the most memorable material put back. The very intelligent contrasts which the scriptwriters draw between Howie's mainstream protestantism and the islanders' paganism - specifically regarding the nature of sacrifice - are largely gone in this version.
Just don't get it. Ask zip for the director's cut instead.Weird and captivating - Omisan771
I had no idea what to expect when I started watching "The Wicker Man". It is not an horror movie, but a rather strange blend of musical comedy and mystery.
If you are a fan of the 60s TV show "The Prisoner", you will probably love this film.
