They Call Me Mister Tibbs!
In this suspenseful sequel to In the Heat of the Night, Academy Award winner Sidney Poitier reprises his role as the intrepid investigator who, this time, must solve a puzzling murder in the City by the Bay. Featuring an original score by Quincy Jones and co-starring Oscar winner Martin Landau and Edward Asner (JFK), They Call Me Mister Tibbs! is "an absorbing mystery that ranks as one of the best" (Boxoffice).
When a prostitute is murdered in San Francisco's ritzy Nob Hill district, an anonymous tip implicates minister and political crusader Reverend Logan Sharpe (Landau). Lt. Virgil Tibbs (Poitier), who has known Sharpe for many years, asks to be assigned to the case in hopes of clearing his friend's name. So begins the detective's journey through a twisted maze of baffling evidence, frantic chases, deadly gunfire and bad alibis. Before long, Tibbs finds himself bitterly torn between his duty as a cop...and his loyalty to a friend.

They Call Me Mr TIBBS - GAR81
A good effort on recapturing the magic of In The Heat Of The Heat. Just another example of Sidney Pottier as one of the finest black actors. its a shame the police are not as intelligent as that in reality or murderers wouldnt be getting off scot free(Not said in the movie) - Spuzz
Tibbs is a bit of a fun movie, but not so fun movie that it becomes incredibly entertaining. It can be easily summarized as Sidney Poitier makes a cop exploitation movie, his way. Which can only mean while we get SOME elements of the genre, it's all ...(read more)done TASTEFULLY, there's SOME violence, but not overly gratuitous, some nudity, but it's not exploitational. So you know? It's certainly ENTERTAINING, but not overly great as far as Poitier movies go. Martin Landau is along for the ride, chewing up the scenery as usual. Finally, this movie shows some rather LAX police work happening. Poitier wanders in to a pool hall full of big beefy guys all by himself?Sloppy investigative work, but the biggest thing happens in the end, when Tibbs gets the bad guy, takes him to his car, with no handcuffs, and just LEAVES HIM ON THE SIDEWALK when Tibbs calls into the station, therefore enabling the bad guy to, you know, wander off. Pretty curious movie. They Call Me Mister Tibbs! - MovieLover
This is a fine suspence filled movie. Sidney Poitier (as Mr. Tibbs) a homocide detective works in such a well structured manner to finding the murderer of a prostitute who is murdered at the start of the movie. Even though reverend Sharpe is known to Mr. Tibbs for many years, Tibbs does his duty and ultimately with a heavy heart confronts Sharpe and is about to take him away
(arrest him), but Sharpe is at that point run down by a speeding car - an act of God so to say that came as a rescue to the reverend who had been such a helping person for the masses and for reform.
