The Thirteenth Floor
You Can Go There Even Though It Doesn't Exist
The barriers that separate fantasy from reality are shattered in this stylish, mind-jarring thriller, where two parallel worlds collide in a paroxysm of deception, madness and murder.
On the thirteenth floor of a corporate tower, high-tech visionary Douglas Hall and his high-strung colleague Whitney have opened the door to an amazing virtual world - circa 1937 Los Angeles. But when the powerful leader of their secret project is discovered slashed to death, Hall himself becomes the prime suspect. Arriving from Paris is the beautiful and mysterious Jane Fuller claiming to be the murdered victim's daughter. Her instant, magnetic attraction to Hall only further blurs the lines of what is real. Is he the killer? Is the inscrutable Jane somehow connected? To find the answers, Hall must cross the boundaries into the simulating reality he has helped create - and confront the astonishing truth of his own existence.

Not a scintilla of plausibility - esperanto41
I like my s-f or fantasy to have at least a scintilla of plausibility, and this had none. Bad acting, bad script, bad premise, wooden characters, wall-to-wall non-sequiturs in both plot and dialogue, and gratuitous violence. As well, the special effects are laughable (except for nicely-done street scenes and ambience of 1937 Los Angeles): for instance, the time-travel sequences are nothing but flashing blue lights, color-change in the eyeballs, and a computerized voice-over.Fun sci-fi - KeithTalent
Pretty darn cool sci-fi film about some scientists that make a virtual world you can laod yourself into and interact with what is really a fully functional world with essentially real people. Some of the acting and dialogue was a little dodgy, but the story is solid and I had a lot of fun with it. I like D'Onofrio, seems like a good guy, though I can barely remember other films he has been in.Hidden Gem of a Movie - Sports
The movie did nothing at the box office and the only reasons I can think of are because of the lack of a big name star and poor marketing because on story and execution this should have been one of the bigger movies of 1999. The atmospheric story telling, great performances and the twist on time travel add up to a first rate movie. The film gets an excellent transfer to Blu-ray with a Dolby True HD soundtrack that although not perfect still adds a lot to the film. If you like your movies with a twist you'll spent an enjoyable 100 minutes with this movie.
