Three Kings
Absurdly comic, highly kinetic, at times shockingly emotional, Three Kings begins when the Gulf War is over. Amid the partying and confusion, four American soldiers (George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Ice Cube and Spike Jonze), determined to take home more than sand fleas, go off into the Iraqi desert to find millions in stolen Kuwaiti bullion. They are plunged into the heart of a democratic uprising that spins the day and their lives out of control. David O. Russell's unique tapestry of humor, violence and history makes Three Kings "one of the best movies of the year." (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times)

I really enjoyed this movie. I thought the acting was superb by all and the director managed to bring out the story and the characters in a way that resonates with you well after you turn off the TV. It begins with the main characters thinking only of themselves and quickly they become a "one for all" team. But I really appreciated the way it depicted the power the Americans had and how that power really wasn't put to any good use for the people.
Our main characters start out just as they were trained (arrogant and self serving), but become very human and considerate of the people who have been suffering through violence that has ravaged their country and their lives. The shift was subtle though the dichotomy of the scene where they are seemingly searching for the gold (Stolen by Sadam) and claiming it is now America's (though it's really for themselves) while turning a blind eye the capture and torture and starvation of the people they are supposed to have saved. And again in a scene in which Mark Wahlberg connects on a personal level with the man who is torturing him. These moments provide us with opportunity to look at the bigger picture of what's really going on.Black humour is hard to take - Ilania
Not only was the humour lost on me, the graphic depictions of death in the desert were just horrible. There was not much of a story to start with.....the last part of the movie is much better, at least there is a humane touch to it. However, if the film makers really wish to make a statement, they lost me....I watched the first 20 and the last 10 minutes of the film....it was quite enough.Loved it - carms
I loved this movie--- it contained a realistic view of soldiers who are, as we tend to forget a lot of times, human: they too can possess the ambitions and dreams of making it big, making a fortune, and would resort to giving in to the greed to do anything to get what they want. Even if they have to go against the grain of morality they have had to learn and swear to uphold. In the middle of a horrible aftermath of war, who would not give in to temptation and get the gold --- for whatever reason --- in order to get a chance to be infamous? And as soldiers taught to defend and help the people who they were forced to go to in war, they face adversities and challenges that would have made the layman go nuts.
This movie consisted of a cast that not only worked well and made it impressionable, but it also was well directed. Of course, it made me happy that Clooney was the lead. But even if he wasnt, any actor(s) who could have delivered this good an acting ability would not make me hestitate to watch it... again and again, given a chance.
