But when the platoon is sent to Tigerland, a hellish training ground that is the last stop before Vietnam, Bozz's leadership and loyalty brings his men together - triggering extraordinary consequences.
Hot newcomer Colin Farrell delivers a "star-making performance" - (ABC TV) and is a winner of the Best Actor Award from the Boston Society of Film Critics in this riveting action film from acclaimed director Joel Schumacher.

While not a full blown war film, it's a very good representation of what it was like for soldiers to train for the Vietnam War.
You feel like you're there with them and get to feel the experience close up.
The acting was well done, and the plot was very realistic. What it takes! - shortnfrisky
This film depicts what it takes to train for combat -- not only weapons and strategy training but character building. Filmed with a hand held camera, you get to feel what it's like to be there. If you're looking for full-blown war action, this film is not for you. And if you don't like war movies, you might be surprised with this one. Colin Farrell does a great job as a reluctant recruit from Texas. I hadn't realized until some time later that he actually normally speaks with a heavy Irish accent.I'm not mad at it! - mikeve
This is a good, solid film. Similar stories have been told before, and to greater effect, but if you really like war movies or war dramas (even though this technically does not take place in a war zone), it's a decent film.
The sense of atmosphere and mood was well developed - you feel like you are there with them in training. There wasn't as much action or violence as you might expect - it felt a bit more like a character study and a story of friendship rather than focusing on war or fighting.
There is plenty of conflict in the film, but it was more in the way of interpersonal arguments and issues between the men. Several of the characters in this film seemed to be crazy/have mental issues.
