Troop Beverly Hills
"Shelley Long gives an exuberant performance..." -USA Today
Shelley Long discovers that when the going gets tough, the tough go camping in Troop Beverly Hills, a comedy about lifestyles of the rich and outrageous. Flamboyantly wealthy Phyllis Nefler (Long) has everything money can buy-a drop-dead Beverly Hills mansion, a classic Rolls, furs, jewelry and designer gowns. The one thing she doesn't have is her husband Freddy (Craig T. Nelson), who's leaving her for good. Maybe. Determined to prove she's still the creative, energetic woman Freddy once loved, Phyllis throws luxury to the wind and becomes leader of her daughter's Wilderness Girls troop. But how much can this chic cookie take before she crumbles? Is saving her marriage really worth trading Gucci bags for sleeping bags-not to mention actually touching bugs? Featuring cameos by Robin Leach, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Pia Zadora, Frankie Avalon, Annette Funicello, Dr. Joyce Brothers and Cheech Marin, Shelley Long blazes new comic trails in this hilarious trail-by-campfire that leaves the wilderness wilder than ever.

Kitchy, but I love it! - bunjies
I have a great love for this old kitchy movie. I think it is a mix between the clichéd 'good guys always win' storyline and the idea of a Beverly Hills scout troop camping out in luxury in the Hotel Penthouse. I think the movie shows a fun perspective on being yourself and loving it!Great Movie (for what it is) - sleepykitty
I have always loved this movie ever since I was little. While some may not like this movie for its cliched situations, I think that it is a fun movie whose themes are becoming more relevant now than ever before.
The movie is fun and upbeat with a good message: in the end, it doesn't matter what other people say you can or can't do - it only matters what you think of yourself.
A great movie for young and old.Notable for how far they have gone - FilmJunkie
It is charming to look back at this very 1989 comedy about a self-absorbed Bev Hills mom (Shelley Long) who becomes a troup leader for the not-copyright-infringed "Wilderness Girls" (read girl scouts). It has its moments, but is most interesting due to the young cast that grew to be much more. Other than Long and Craig T. Nelson as her husband, her daughter is played by Jenny Lewis in her first role who went on to minor early 90's movie success, but is now an indie rock goddess as lead singer of Rilo Kiley with her own solo album winning rave reviews. The rest of the troupe includes a very young Carla Gugino wayyy before 'Sin City', the 'Spy Kids' franchise, or even 'Son-In-Law'. There is also Kellie Martin who went on to star in TV's 'Life Goes On' as well as have a season on 'ER'. Shelley Morrison plays (surprise surprise) a maid years before she would be the truth-talking Rosario on 'Will and Grace'. Finally you can catch Tori Spelling in her teens and brunette far before she had the most unconvincing breasts in the biz.
All in all, a charming teen flick and one that stays close to my heart because I was the target audience when it came out.
