Vampire In Brooklyn
A Comic Tale Of Horror And Seduction.
Eddie Murphy's got the bite stuff in this movie mix of bone-chilling horror and chill-out comedy directed by Wes Craven (A Nightmare On Elm Street). As the vampire Maximillian, the popular star is the most diabolical, dashing and definitely undead dude in the 'hood'. To add to the macabre fun, Murphy morphs into two other must-see characters: a paunchy preacher and a fast talking thug.
Angela Bassett (The Score) plays the cop whose world is rocked by Maximillian's attempts to maker her his mate for eternity. And Kadeem Hardison is the vampire's haplessly decaying sidekick. Brooklyn may be home to the undead now that Max is around -- but that means it's livelier than ever!

Eddie Murphy in a Wes Craven movie - Silverthorn
I am a huge fan of Eddie Murphy's 80's movies - Beverly Hills Cop, 48 Hrs, Coming To America, and his stand-up "Delirious" so I was intrigued to check out the remaining older movies that I didn't see. I chose to borrow Vampire in Brooklyn - I rated it "2 stars" because it was a "Didn't like it" feature. I couldn't say I liked it. There was profanity (which is good), but his character doesn't really grow and there isn't really anything memorable about the dialogue or the story.
The story is Eddie (a vampire) who wants to I believe recruit a woman who is a half-vampire/half-human. I think the film fails to really deliver but there were probably some entertaining performances. I can't say I loved it. In other news though, I did think Eddie Murphy in 2008's "Meet Dave" was hilarious.
Here's hoping that Eddie can do some great comedy-dramas before he retires.Entre Dracula et - Champ
Un film de vampire (non pas d'horreure) avec une légère touche de comédie. Même si il est interressant de voir Murphy jouer un autre genre que celui auquel il nous avait abitué, il faut avoué que ce n'est pas le plus grand jeux d'Actuer. West Craven ne se force pas beaucoup, ça réalisation est très emprunté et assez peu original. Celui qu'on appele le maitre de l'horreure ne justifie nulement son titre. L'histoire est très emprunté à Dracula et démontre assez peu d'originalité, elle se contente de remetre le vampire dans un contexte moderne (un peu comme Anne Rice, qui au moins fait preuve d'originalité de sont coté). Mais on réussi quand même à nous arraché quelque rire, à défaut de hurlement. Un film assez pauvre en soit, pour les soiré pluvieuse de novembre on plane les reste de l'Halloween.Horror + comedy = bad - Olivier_L. _Mtl
I don't know if that equation is universal, but Vampire In Brooklyn falls short on both accounts (horror & comedy). Even Eddie Murphy couldn't make this movie interesting.
Don't get fooled by big names like Angela Bassett and Wes Craven, this isn't worth your money nor your time. I would have given it 1 star if it wasn't for the very few laughs it brought me. 2 stars.
