Vanishing Point
The Ultimate Car Chase Movie!
Thrills, spills... and a handful of pills. It all adds up to one of the most spectacular car chases in motion picture history! Barry Newman stars as Kowalski, the last American hero, who sets out to prove that he can drive from Denver to San Francisco in just fifteen hours. Along the way, he meets an old prospector (Dean Jagger), a snake worshipper, a nude woman on a motorcycle, and a blind D.J. (Cleavon Little) who "sees" danger ahead in this super-charged, action-packed adventure!

This has a reputation as being the greatest car chase movie of all time and it probably is (this statement excepts movies like Bullit or the French Connection where a truly great car chase is merely part of the film). That statement doesn't say much however, as most car chase movies aren't much of anything else. It's about as artsy and, conversely, as bare bones, as something like this could be, and that's to its credit. But in the end it is just a car chase movie that certainly will resonate far more with anyone who was a white teen or 20-something in late 60s/early 70s than with anyone else.a Classic - FieroGT
This is one of those films if you are looking for a great story or script it is not there. What it is and has are awesome car chases and a few nasty car crashes. These are old world stunts no fancy CGI here the speeds are real and the car is just wicked. I am sure the budget for this film was not huge but some of the shots are amazing. And There Goes the Challenger, Being Chased By the Blue Meanies on Wheels! - Al_Stech
"Vanishing Point" lives up to its reputation as one of the best car chase movies ever. Don't bother with this film if you're worried about a deep plot, a completely sensical narrative structure, or even high production values though. This is, rather, the quintessential "strap yourself in and hold on" movie. On a side note, I was amused to discover that the woman who is always completely nude in this movie has gone on to become a costume designer of note. Cool kids will also want to consider that Quentin Tarantino's upcoming "Death Proof" apparently borrows heavily from this film.
