Nice coming of age story - JayA
I think this movie is still underrated even though it's not really a great film. It's a good film about boys coming of age and learning about sea life. A lot is made of it being shirtless boys, and that's probably one of the things that kept it from being as popular oddly enough, because it would appeal to a lot of people I would think, though it's grouped with a different type of film. I think it's really engaging and entertaining until it sort of falls apart at the end. It clearly never figured out what it should be focussed on, so part camaraderie, part adventure, part natural disaster film, part courtroom drama - it never figured out where to spend it's time, and while all those elements could be successfully blended in a movie, they really aren't here. Still worth seeing for several of the elements, but the whole will leave you a little disappointed.A good movie with a good, solid storyline - Madamx28
When I first read the description of this movie I thought perhaps it might just be another version of The Perfect Storm, but once I started watching it I realized it was nothing like it. Not only does it have a background story, but it uses that element to create a bond between us and the characters, which by the second half of the movie is important in order for it to be NOT just another sea disaster movie.
Whether your hooked in by the personal side or the the shirtless young men, it's far more to this story than meets the eye.
Give it a try, it's worth it!Nice To Look At - FilmJunkie
Talk about the homoerotic nature of homosocial bonding! This film is filled with overemotional shirtless young men on the open sea.
I remember watching this with a large group of girl's in our boarding school dormitory, each one of us sighing over the sight of our favorite hunk (mine was Ethan Embry without a doubt).
From Scott Wolf to Ryan Phillippe to Jeremy Sisto to Embry, if you have a penchant for hot young white actors who cry, this is your film.
However all that beauty falters under a lame script with far too many tears. I have no idea what Ridley Scott was thinking.
