Working Girl
For anyone who's ever won. For anyone who's ever lost. And for anyone who's still in there trying.
Nominated for 6 Academy Awards®, director Mike Nichols' witty, romantic look at life in the corporate jungle stars Melanie Griffith as Tess McGill, an ambitious secretary with a unique approach for climbing the ladder to success. When her classy, but villainess boss (Sigourney Weaver) breaks a leg skiing, Tess simply take over her office, her apartment, even her wardrobe. She then creates a deal with a handsome investment banker (Harrison Ford) that will either take her straight to the top -- or finish her off for good.

Griffiths stars as, Tess, a bright, driven woman determined to prove her potential and break down stereotypes. On one hand, this film is extremely dated (i.e., the fashion, the décor, and the portrayal of businesswomen), but on the other hand, this is a timeless story about a small-town girl finding her way in the big city. Ford is great as Tess’s love interest/business partner and brings a charm to the role reminiscent of B&W films 30 years prior. Tess is a complicated, colourful character, but she's far too supported in the end for her duplicitous business dealings and I never validated her business acumen considering her lack of experience. One benefit of 25 -year-old movies is checking out the much younger versions of A. Baldwin, Joan Cusack, Spacey and Platt as part of the excellent supporting cast.Wonderfully charming 80s flick. - estefan
Great, funny story about working your way to the top, Melanie Griffith gives a charming performance in the lead role. Harrison Ford also does a very nice job as the business partner she falls for and Sigourney Weaver manages to take a character with minimal screen-time and give her such presence. The film moves at a solid pace and though the whole radio-acquisition storyline didn't excite all that much, it's Tess's move to the top that makes this such a enjoyable film to watch. It's also fun to see the young Alec Baldwin and Kevin Spacey in small, but nonetheless memorable parts. And of course, Working Girl having such a 1980's time stamp automatically makes me charmed by its crazy hair-styles, gigantic glasses and computers that simply have a black background and green text on the screen. Highly recommended. One of My Favs - B00B00
I have watched this romantic comedy many times and every time I see it, I get some good laughs. It's a really nice "FEEL GOOD" movie. The inspiration I get from it is the Melanie's character starts from the bottom and works her way up in the corporate world, while keeping her ethics in tow. She also gets romantically involved with another underdog and together they blow out the competitor. You've got to see this movie if you need a movie to inspire you.
