Oh, God!
The Divine Comedy That Will Make You Believe.
You're the assistant manager of a supermarket. You have a lovely wife and kids. And you've just had an interview with god, who's recruited you to carry his message to all humankind.
Oh, God! is the very nimble, very funny teaming of three comedy masters: screenwriter Larry Gelbart, director Carl Reiner and Academy Award winner George Burns in the tailor-made title role. Music star John Denver brings a winning naturalness to his film debut as god's recruit. His wife (Teri Garr) and kids think he's crazy. Others brand him a fanatic and a nuisance. But god always sees the bright side- and Oh, God! makes a very charming, very persuasive case for his viewpoint.

Great movie, very worth watching. I agree with the previous reviewer, it's amazing to see how this film still speaks to some of the current issues we have going on a daily basis. I enjoyed it throughly, laughed along the way and consider it a very worthwhile movie to watch on your own or with friends and family. When was this made? - jillabeer
It's bizarre to watch this 30 year old film and find commentary that would be considered progressive today on issues of environmentalism, misappropriation of religion, and spirituality. Of course, the sexist treatment of female characters roots this firmly in the era of its origin.
Less funny and more poignant, George Burns is at his finest as the Almighty. Despite not being able to reach the bar set by his co-star, John Denver does an adequate job as the man chosen to spread the good word (not to be confused with Good News - this film works hard to stay away from any one faith). All in all, Oh God is definitely worth watching if for nothing more than seeing George Burns in a safari suit.~ A FIRST OF IT'S KIND MOVIE ~ GREAT FUN ~ 5 NewClassicStars ~ - SqueakyChair
SNAPSHOT: Slow-even-paced. Inspiring. Sentimental. Funny. Family friendly fare. Avoids most of the potential 'preachy' pitfalls as it asks "what if" and pokes fun in a very fun, but not irreverent, manner.
MORE THOUGHTS: Both George Burns and John Denver are perfect for the roles they play which becomes further evident when they tried to make Oh God 2 and dropped 2 Star ratings in the process. OK, so you don't believe in a God [or your do] it doesn't really matter in the same way that Miracle on 48th Street didn't require belief to be a great film classic.
