Dead & Buried
It will take your breath away. All of it.
Something very strange is happening in the quiet coastal village of Potters Bluff where tourists and transients are warmly welcomed, then brutally murdered. But even more shocking is when these slain strangers suddenly reappear as normal, friendly citizens around town. Now the local sheriff (James Farentino of The Final Countdown) and an eccentric mortician (Oscar winner Jack Albertson in his final feature film performance), must uncover the horrific secret of a community where some terrifying traditions are alive and well... and no one is ever really Dead & Buried.
Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street) co-stars in this genuinely chilling horror hit written by Robert Shusett and Dan O'Bannon (Alien), directed by Gary A. Sherman (Poltergeist III) and featuring ultra-grisly gore effects by Oscar winner Stan Winston (Terminator 2, Aliens). Dead & Buried is now presented completely uncut and uncensored (including controversial 'hypodermic needle in the eyeball' scene), and featuring a bonus disc of revealing new Extras created especially for this Limited Edition.

This is one of VERY few movies that I have ever turned off less than an hour into it. The acting, script, film shots, even hair and makeup are TERRIBLE. We tried to sit it out but just couldn't do it!!
It's so 70's in flavour (which makes sense being that it was filmed in '81) but with out the real story, decent actors and viable dialogue.
One of the worst films I've ever ever seen.Typical of the early '80s - Coconut_Willy
The early '80s generated so many horror movies that it's unavoidable to lose sight of a few. I would not qualify this one as a classic but it's certainly better than a few better known representatives of the era. The main idea behind this film is pretty good but the storyline built around it doesn't do much to enhance it. The characters are in general interesting, the acting is appropriate, the sets and locations are quite typical of this genre and period and the soundtrack is quite good. The camera work in general is adequate with some great scenes/shots/effects. Highly recommended to all horror fans.
The transfer to DVD is pretty average; not too much visible damage but colors and definition are quite ordinary. No extras on the disc but there is a bonus DVD that can be rented separately.Classic Compelling Horror - ShadowOfTerror
It is very rare, that a movie draws you into its world on such a level as Dead and Buried. It is an atmospheric, chilling, and chill inducing film. The haunting score sets the mood for the film, and it is scary to its final frame. Also for those that are into scenery it has verynice camera work, and is also important ot setting the mood. It is a movie best watched without knowing anything about it. Let's just say it is s compelling mystery that surrounds a town. It is gruesoem, but no more than a typical primetime televison show such as CSI. For those that enjoy a creepy atmosperic movie with intelligence rent this one immediately! You will not be disappointtd.
