Very good film/miniseries - calenita
This is a great version of the story of Helen and Paris and the siege of Troy. Helen was very beautiful. I loved reading a kid's version of the Iliad when I was a child and this follows that story pretty well. There is a lot that could be added of course and some things deviated from the storyline. I did not like the way Achilles was portrayed. He just seemed a brute. He was supposed to be the greatest warrior. I liked Menelaus as well. Agamemnon was a bit over the top. Good version of the story though. Next time we need more intervention from the gods and goddesses!Different from Troy - hilkayaker
I enjoyed this movie much more then troy. The plot line was differently focused enough that it didn't seem like the same movie. I thought this Helen was much more beautiful then the other one. I enjoyed how the story started earlier and gave us more background and also lasted after the battle too. It was interesting to see the sister's relationship as well as the brothers. Really shows how helpless women are and at the mercy of the men who "own" them. Would recommend seeing this one too.Much more of a human drama than TROY - Superdave
Unlike the epic TROY, which spent much time and money recreating the spectacle of the Trojan War with CGI, the emphasis here is on the political ambitions and prophecies leading up to the start of the siege of Troy. Rufus Sewell as Agamemnon gives a performance (as the man who would conquer Troy) which eerily evokes Oliver Reed at his sinister best, as he makes it clear that the romance of Helen and Paris was merely a convenient excuse for the events that followed, and that the war came out of his own thirst for conquest. Sienna Guillory is attractive as Helen, but her role is rapidly reduced to that of a bystander in the great events that swirled around her. And the film makes clear its logic about this: how could a woman be responsible for a war in a time when even princesses were chattels of the royal houses to be auctioned off in marriage for political gain? As it deals more intimately with its characters and looks more closely at social power structures and gender roles of the period, this film is much more interesting as a human drama than the rather empty spectacle TROY.
