Bridget Jones's Diary
Uncensored. Uninhibited. Unmarried.
This romantic comedy is the story of Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweger), a 32 year old "singleton" who decides to take control of her life by keeping a diary. With a taste for adventure and an opinion on every subject -- from her circle of friends, to men, food, sex and everything in between -- she's decided to turn the page on a whole new life. Despite her efforts to get her act together, she finds herself caught between two men -- Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), a man who's too good to be true, and Marc Darcy (Colin Firth), a man who's so wrong for her, he could be just right!

Bridget Jone's Diary - bbryon1
This romantic comedy follows Bridget (Renee Zellweger), a post-feminist, thirty-something British woman who has a penchant for alcoholic binges, smoking, and an inability to control her weight. While trying to keep these things in check and also deal with her job in publishing, she visits her parents for a Christmas party. They try to set her up with Mark, the visiting son of one of their neighbors. Snubbed by Mark, she instead falls for her boss Daniel. He begins to send her suggestive e-mails that soon lead to a dinner date proposition. Daniel reveals that he and Mark attended college together, during which time Mark had an affair with his fiancée. When Bridget finds Daniel cavorting with an American colleague, she decides to change her life with a new job as a TV presenter.Fun for Chicks - cinecynic
How do you take a clever chick-lit novel written in diary form and turn it into film? Use some voiceover, and inject a good amount of slapstick humour. This formula works only because the main players, Zellwegger, Grant and Firth are first-rate.
There was controversy in England when Zellwegger was cast as a Brit, but she did a fine job in the role. She carried the accent as well as the cheeky attitude needed to seem British. She blends this with a self-effacing side that is charming to watch.
Hugh Grant doesn't played the stuttering, bumbling love interest as he does in so many rom-coms. He's got an edge that we may have seen only in About A Boy, only this time he's a randy andy who knows how to charm.
Colin Firth is a little more limited because he plays the tall, dark, handsome, mostly impassive male. His eyes speak of hidden passion, though, which is incredibly sexy. He also comes through for Bridget when she needs him, becoming the necessary hero in every chick flick.
Following Bridget through her desperate attempts to reinvent herself as a slimmer, smarter and generally more attractive package is full of laughs. No pathos here, just good fun.I will watch it over and over again - Revolutionary_Bum
This movie, along with its sequel is such a chick flick, but an amzingly good one. Renee Zellweger is brilliant, and Colin Firth and Hugh grant ARE the characters. They are very believable in each of their character that you end up thinking and realizing that this is probably the real life of a woman out there. Amazing acting, awesome chemistry, very good script, a must-see for all chick flick lovers.
