He has played very well in this movie that it made me think if he was the way he is in the movie in a real life. The story was great to see how they develop relationship over time and along the way, there are lots of events happening. It was exciting to see the end.Moving... - anwallette
This film put me into tears for most of the movie. Sean Penn does such a fabulous job as a mentally challenged man who is living in a world that doesn't understand him. He is raising a daughter who is his whole world.
As a special needs teacher, this movie is one that really struck a chord with me. Dakota Fanning brings a great deal of sensitivity to the role of Lucy, acting as the parent to her parent.
This movie forces you to reconsider how you view those who are different from you.i am sam - monty
Wow - what a great show. Between the music (the Beatles all the way) and the tears, I was on an emotional roller coaster. This is a must see for those who like having their heart strings tugged. Dakota Fanning was exceptional as was Sean Penn & Michele Pfeiffer. It sure makes you marvel at the abilities of people we too often judge as "non-functional".
