Max
Art + Politics = Power
A promising young artist, Max Rothman (John Cusack) lost his arm in the Great War and with it his ability to paint. Upon his return he opens what quickly becomes an acclaimed art gallery catering to modernism. There he runs into another war veteran and struggling artist named Adolf Hitler. Max encourages Adolf to develop his talent and channel his raw beliefs into his art. Penniless and without family or friends, the lure of politics soon wins Adolf's interest over art, setting into motion the most cataclysmic period in the 20th Century.

Interesting film - Spacey
I thought this film had an interesting concept, and was involved to see the story unfold.
The story follows Hitler and an artist/art dealer between the WWI and WWII. The plot is a "what if..." and gets viewers thinking about what might have been had Hitler followed other interests instead of politics. While there are indications that Hitler was a failed artist, the events that happened in the film are fictional.
I thought that much of the film was interesting to see as Hitler rose to power by spreading sentiments of hate within the German public. Cusack seems to be stuck within his traditional style of acting and expressing emotion. It would have been nice to see more depth of character and passion withing his role.
Over all this was a good film, that will get viewers thinking about possibilities in history.Max - frednginger
The movie provides an interesting background to an historical figure, however the acting is, at times, uneven. This drains the story of some of its emotional impact.
While Cusack is, in some scenes, believable; Noah Taylor is consistently two dimensional and lacking depth, playing the role as a charicature.
The story does a good job of exploring the political, economic and social conditions in Germany post-WWI, and exposes some of the roots of the rise of Nazism and the causes of WWII.an interesting perspective - hereis_nowhy
Max takes place in 1918, and is the story of an art gallery owner (played by John Cusack) who befriends a struggling young artist named Adolf Hitler. Max encourages young Hitler to channel his raw emotion into his art, while destiny, as we see, has him channel it elsewhere. Although the particulars of the story are fictional, the depiction of the young tyrant has strong roots in history, and the insights into his beliefs (and particularly, his understanding of art as propaganda) are as interesting as they are astonishing.
