Possession (2002)
"The most romantic film of the year!" -Bill Zwecker, FOX-TV
Hailed as "the most romantic film of the year!" (Bill Zwecker FOX-TV) Academy Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow (Shakespeare in Love) and Aaron Eckhart (Erin Brockovich) star in this sexy, seductively intriguing mystery.
Maud Bailey and Roland Michell are two dedicated literary scholars with nothing in common - except their obsession with the two Victorian poets they have devoted their lives to studying. As they embark on a wildly romantic journey in search of the truth, the mysteries of the past engulf them, even as the passions of the present possess them.

The casting of this film could not have been better, beginning with LaBute stalwart Eckhart, who perfectly realizes the character of Michell. Gwyneth Paltrow is a commanding presence. Her initial entrance is fairly inauspicious. Possession does a fair job of melting themes of love and love lost as it progresses and it occasionally manages thrilling.Read the book - skip the movie - Cori
After reading the wonderful book by AS Byatt - I looked forward to seeing the film adaptation. Now I wish I hadn't. The book is so vivid and beautifully detailed and there is no way they could have adapted it adequately into a 2 hour movie. The movie feels clumsy and incomplete. It is, fortunately, very forgetable so hasn't tarnished my impressions of the literary masterpiece that the book is.Fizzled Adaptation - Patrick_Conejo
Based on A. S. Byatt's beloved literary detective story / double romance, this movie adaptation falls unsurprisingly flat, since so much of the original's action is conveyed through letters, poems and scholarly digging. The addition of a clumsily handled, bogus American vs. Brits theme adds an annoyance factor to what is otherwise an earnest but doomed effort.
