Enjoyable romantic time-travel movie! - palmtree
First off I have to admit I love "gimmicky" story lines and time travel. So of course I loved this movie. It is highly watchable and funny. Not the deepest movie, but definitely a fun watch. I liked Hugh Jackman as a 1800's gentleman in New York. It wasn't Meg Ryan's best role, but still all around a good movie.Wish I could travel back in time and not watch this. - cathyottawa
This movie relys completely on a time travel theory - but it hopes you won't think about the logic behind it too much, and won't notice the many things that just make no sense within the time travel explaination.
It's just lazy story telling. They hope you'll get swept up in the romance, and just won't care. They quickly get rid of Liev Shreiber's genius scientist character for most of the movie, so they don't have to address the time travel stuff.
I might have been able to forgive all of this if the romance was indeed captivating. It wasn't.
Meg Ryan is playing the same woman here she's played again and again in her many rom/coms, but there was something rather unlikeable about her character this time. I also felt like she really phoned this one in, and wasn't invested in the story.
Hugh Jackman was okay, but I felt they had his character accept his situation, and the 21st century all too quickly. And I just didn't feel there was any chemistry between him and Ryan.Such Fun - Torileaf
I have to say that I totally enjoyed this movie. It is such a fun movie, so cute and sweet. The fact that it has Meg Ryan, our favorite romance girl and Hugh Jackman, our yummie boy, has nothing to do with it. It is just a great romantic romp through time and New York. Highly recommended for a fun evening on the couch with you honey or some popcorn!
