a movie for adults 4.5* - bosoxx
What a welcome relief. A movie for adults. One has to pay attention. A movie with finely crafted subtleties re: human characterizations, emotions etc.Very good script likely due to it being adapted from a successful stage play.Suspenseful.All the actors are in very good form.A tribute to Lawrence.Nice to hear the Aussie accent. One of the best I have seen from Oz-land recently.Classic Multiple Protagonist Film - Neil_Private
First class with wonderful cast.
Made in the style made popular by Short Cuts and World Famous by Crash, Lantana had a weaving plot that I found unpredictable and gripping from start to finish. i't snothing fancy, nothing Hollywood about it. Just a great story, great cast and real dialogue. Typically Oz in style, no car chase, no bank robbery and none of the ridiculous circumstance that clotted Crash.
I'm sure few will have heard of it but none would regret this rental. Geoffrey Rush is a mark of quality that should hint at the work here.LANTANA - ricepudding
REVIEW OF THE MOVIE LANTANA
This Australian movie is based on a stage play. It is a story of intrigue, suspense,
love lost and found, and a distressing incident but a type of happy ending where
damaged love seems to repair itself and successfully combat its greatest opponent –
indifference.
The production preserves a dignity throughout, despite adultery, mixed and damaged
relationships, and a policeman who treads the thin line between calm and rage. His
colleague – a police-woman detective - seems always to be on the brink of calming
the police detective’s impulse to use physical violence. But the man’s temper
usually gets the best of a turbulent situation and unfortunately the female detective
seems to act rather like a piece of make-weight chocolate in a box of chocolates.
She plays a role that never gets to do much...perhaps this is the way Australians
like their women to behave.
The acting throughout is crisp, professional, and played with a big heart. Unfortunately
we do not get to see much of the Australian ‘country’, and apart from the accents
and a few other pointers this movie could have taken place almost anywhere, which
is a slight detraction from the overall effect.
Should you watch this movie?. Yes, it has a real-life sensitivity and draws one into
the plot and characters by invitation which is difficult to resist and ignore...the mark
of a successful production.
Four stars for nice entertainment.
