This is a cute little romantic comedy. The acting is good and the story is compelling. It's nothing out of the ordinary, but it is rather well done.
I watched this last weekend with my wife. It had some special meaning, as it was one of the first movies we saw together at the theatre. It brought back fond memories, as we vaguely remembered the story.Fate-All Attraction - cinecynic
I know the premise is far-fetched-- two people with significant others meeting by accident and discovering an attraction but let fate decide if they should be together and voila, the fate's provide at the eleventh hour--but the joy in this film is in watching how Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack become aware of a nagging "what-if?" voice and actually begin to act upon it.
There is humour along for the ride as we watch these two giving fate a helping hand. Both Beckinsale and Cusack are great to watch separately and together. Though contrived, it's a fun, heartwarming story, best watched when sentiments run high, like at Christmastime. Not very romantic - AandW
I don't quite understand it. So, serendipity is supposed to be a coincidence of good fortune. But John and Kate exert so much effort to prove that their meeting was serendipidous, that it defeats the whole concept. In the process they are total jerks to those that are willing to love them unconditionally. I believe in fate as much as the next person, but this is not it. This film just doesn't deliver on it's promises. For their part, John and Kate play their roles well. I blame the writing / directing / producing.
