Swimming Pool
Take the plunge into "a sensuous and deceptive thriller" (Roger Ebert). Charlotte Rampling stars as a successful murder mystery author who travels to her publisher's French country house for relaxation. But her peace is shattered by the unexpected arrival of her publisher's sexy and reckless daughter, Julie (Ludivine Sagnier). Isolated and at odds, the two women begin a dance of deception that may ultimately lead to murder in the movie that is "soaked with raw sensuality" (Sixty Second Preview) and "wickedly delicious" (Richard Roeper).

Beautiful to look at, semi-interesting, bit of a good twist at the end; of course I'm a sucker for anything with Charlotte Rampling in it (DVD includes a good interview with her). But it really never engages you, and none of the characters are sympathetic and you cannot relate to them (I couldn't, anyway). I'd pass.Disappointing - SandJ
I started out liking this movie, but it just didn't go anywhere. The acting was OK but the characters were pretty trite and the story left something to be desired. The first two thirds were overall slow and repetitive, with random sex and suspense thrown in to try to keep you watching. Then the end gets weird and thrillery in a way that didn't fit the rest of the movie. I felt that the plot twists and "artsy" elements at the end were just added to try to distinguish this movie from others and get attention, not because they added anything to the story or fit with the context that was set up earlier in the film.
(SPOILER) Usually, I like surprise endings, but only if they add something to my perception of the story. This one seemed tacked on and artificial. It neither resolved the story, nor made me see it in a new light. I like the idea of exploring the creative process and the boundary between fiction and reality, but these themes were not well-developed in this movie; instead they seemed to be added onto an unsatisfying movie in order to give it some merit.
Overall, it's not a terrible movie, because it kept me interested while I watched it, but don't go out of your way to see it. Watch Mulholland Drive instead- it has many of the same themes, but is much better done. This movie surprised me. - jakka
In a good way. Not at all what I expected. The atmosphere is English and French, but mostly the former. Sure there's some great scenery, but that's not what you will remember. The central twist - very cool. If you don't get it , it's not because of something you didn't see.
