The Wedding Singer
He's gonna party like it's 1985.
It's 1985 and Robbie Hart (Adam Sandler) is the ultimate master of ceremonies...until he is left at the alter at his own wedding. Devastated, he becomes a newlywed's worst nightmare--an entertainer who can do nothing but destroy other people's weddings. It's not until he meets a warm-hearted waitress named Julia (Drew Barrymore) that he starts to pick up the pieces of his heart. The only problem is Julia's about to have a wedding of her own and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a lifetime, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.

It was really funny when Adam Sandler was playing just one song over and over again and a guy in the crowd yells, ``You suck!'' The bad guy was pretty good, too. He seemed like a really mean person. What my brother and I didn't enjoy a lot was how they added in Billy Idol. That was just sort of pointless.1980's Nostalgia and Satire - Gregg
Set in 1985 it’s the story of a wedding singer Robbie Hart (Adam Sandler) who is seeking the stability and security of marriage but is stood up at the altar, its also the story of a waitress Julia Sullivan (Drew Barrymore) who is seeking the same but is about to marry the proverbial ‘wrong guy’. Fortunately and not surprisingly our protagonists meet, but there are a few obstacles of course.
This is a cute and relatively inoffensive romantic comedy that has some nostalgic moments and also very funny reflections on the music and the ‘culture’ of the 1980’s. The two leads come across well enough (without really breaking any new ground) and there are some effective cameos in particular that of Steve Buscemi as a drunken best man. Other cameos include former Saturday Night Live alumni Kevin Nealon and Jon Lovitz, as well as Billy Idol as himself.
The story is fine as are the performances but this movies strength is in it satiric nods to the 80’s, fans of 1980 music will probably enjoy the soundtrack as well.
Not having been a particular fan of Adam Sandler’s early sophomoric films I was not expecting much here but he is surprisingly restrained and still manges to be funny. On Saturday Night Live I found his humor to be hit and miss. I found most of Sandler’s films that followed this effort to be at least somewhat more palatable than those that predated this film. I’m not a fan but he has made some reasonably entertaining movies and I find him funny as long as he is going way over the top.Love Adam Sandler - Smiley2
This movie is really cheesy but really fun too. Adam Sandler is really quite a singer and he and Drew Barrymore have chemistry in front of the camera for sure. I love the way you laugh and then you cry in this movie. Adam Sandler has definitely been growing and his new movies seem to have a lot more laughing and crying combined. You'd almost think he was becoming a serious actor but he still likes a touch of comedy, which makes him worth watching. Love the way this movie incorporates the 80's from the way women dressed like Madonna to a cameo appearance by Billy Idol. Go Retro!
