Tom Cruise delivers one of his finest performances in this unforgettably powerful film that reunites him with Cameron Crowe, the director of Jerry Maguire.
Young, handsome and wealthy, publishing tycoon David Aames (Cruise) can have anything his heart desires. Still, David's charmed life seems incomplete. One night, David meets the woman of his dreams (Penelope Cruz) and believes he may have found the missing piece. But a fateful encounter with a jealous lover (Cameron Diaz) suddenly sends David's world out of control, rocketing him on a roller-coaster ride of romance, sex, suspicion and dreams... to a shocking, final awakening you will never forget.

I watched this movie because of the big casts and story started OK and enjoyable. But as the story goes, it was more and more weird and at the end, it seems all the weird accidents and occasion were washed out too easy without any explanation which I would expect more from the story.interesting failure - clauditorium
It's nice to see Tom Cruise taking some risks lately, doing arty stuff like this movie and Eyes Wide Shut, and playing a drug addict in Minority Report.
But risks don't always pay off.
Vanilla Sky is a remake of the Spanish film Open Your Eyes, which I haven't seen. This is one of those movies where you're not sure if what's happening is real. I usually love this kind of movie (Jacob's Ladder is a good example of the genre), but Cameron Crowe messed this one up. It's hard to be affected (shocked, moved) by a movie that never goes beneath the surface of things. The characters aren't fleshed out, the relationships are never made believable, and the surprise ending has no weight - it may indeed be unexpected, but it is also rather uninteresting. The same concept was handled in a much less heavy-handed (and more entertaining and effective) way in Total Recall. I think the key problem is that this is a remake; I think Crowe could have done a great job if he had written his own original script. There are a few nicely surreal moments (such as the much-discussed Times Square sequence), but they are stranded in the middle of a failed experiment.
The best thing about this movie is the director's great taste in music - the soundtrack features excellent, well-chosen tracks by Radiohead, R.E.M., Sinead O'Connor, and The Chemical Brothers, among others.Unique and thought provoking - Cine
When I saw this for the first time in the theatre, I ended up going for coffee with other movie goers (strangers to me) afterwards so we could continue talking about it. The film moved us in some odd way to evaluate our places in the world. We examined how we often felt like we lacked control in a smothering ever shrinking modern environment. Crazy ideas and thought provocation.....all a result of a "mind bend" movie which kept us guessing until the end and even later. I ended up seeing it 4 more times. Some will like it....some will like it a lot. It will really hit home with those of you who have ever had to deal with any insecurities about yourself. It will give you the boost that you need to get on the path to overcoming these.
