This is a wonderful movie. I think the only movies that even come close to rivaling this one in terms of war movies are 'Saving Private Ryan' and the very underrated 'The Thin Red Line'. This movie really displays the horrors of war. I cried for those poor boys many times during this movie. I think it's important to watch these movies to appreciate our veterans, no matter what country you live in. This movie really shows that although the Vietnamese were the enemy, they were just boys to. Most of them under 25 who were TOLD they would be fighting, not asked if they wanted to and they were just following orders. Now, don't get me wrong, I realize they were the enemy, but I just love the way this movie shows how war is hell for everyone, whether you're American, Vietnamese, or a wife trying to deal with the TERROR of the dreaded telegram. I give this movie two thumbs up!!Awesome - kstar0327
This is one of the best war movies of all time. Based on a true story of Col Hal Moore. I am not a big Mel Gibson fan but I was memorized by the movie. I have seen this countless of times and even purchased it for my father who is an avid war movie fan. A must see for anyone who likes war movies A+++One of my all time favs - saint_angrrr
This one the war movies that all other war movies have to measure up to. It can be a little too graphic and realistic for some, but I have trouble thinking of a more powerful and emotional movie.
This film was made by the people that were actually there in the battle. Great pains were taken to keep it perfectly accurate, and not "Hollywoodized". It is also a touching tribute to those that lost their lives in the war.
What I think I liked best about this movie, is that it takes the time to show you that these soldiers are human. It tells the story from both sides of the war. Rather than painting the VC as monsters, it shows that they were also just humans doing what they thought they had to do.
The story also takes the time to show things from the point of view of the wives and families back home. Some of the saddest moments of the film were seeing the wives grieving after receiving word that they have lost their husband.
I appreciated the fact that this movie went through the efforts it did to pay tribute to the soldiers without being preachy or political. I can tell when a movie is being pretentious and trying too hard to be profound, and I find it insulting to my intelligence... this movie did exactly the opposite, and left me very moved.
Being a big tough guy, rarely have I ever shed a tear in a movie, but this one did it.
