Camp Firewood, 1981. It's the last day of camp and everyone is busy. Camp director Beth (Janeane Garofalo) is trying to keep order while falling in love with astrophysicist Henry (David Hyde Pierce). Henry is trying to save the camp from being hit by a piece of SKYLAB hurtling toward Earth. Camp counselor Coop is in love with Katie, who is in love with lifeguard Andy. If that's not enough, there's a waterfall rescue, talking vegetable cans, the misfits, the cool kids... and more!
It's a star-filled, laugh-a-minute, crazy comedy. Summer camp was never this much fun!

The summer is wet and hot. Heat is the absence of cold, just as cold is the absence of heat. Cold weather iself has ruined many camping trips. Camping is fun except for mosquitoes. Mosquitoes hate DDT yet it is well known that insect colonies have invested in DDT through their RRSP's and 401k's -- possibly for use in the many insectoid civil wars that rage constantly in the wild.Very funny - eli_quincy
"Wet Hot American Summer" seems to be a divisive movie, but you have to come at it with the right attitude. It's a gleefully silly send-up of '80s summer sex romps, cast with many of the comedic minds behind "The State." They have a very specific comedic style -- ironic, silly, somehow both smart and stupid at the same time -- and if you can dig that wavelength, you'll enjoy this movie.It's really funny - MatthewE
There are a lot of things this movie is not - realistic, believable, coherent - but it isn't trying to be any of those things. It's trying to make fun of low-budget summer camp movies in as many ways as it can, and it succeeds.
There are a lot of scenes in this movie that I don't know how they even thought of trying to do them. Clearly a sick mind was at work, and I mean that in the best possible way. Some of it was kind of dumb, yes, but dumb in a smart way.
I laughed at this movie a lot of times. I would watch it again.
