Mulholland Drive
"A Maniacal Thrill!" -The New York Times
This sexy thriller has been acclaimed as one of the year's best films. Two beautiful women are caught up in a lethally twisted mystery - and ensnared in an equally dangerous web of erotic passion. "There's nothing like this baby anywhere! This sinful pleasure is a fresh triumph for Lynch, and one of the best films of the year. Visionary daring, swooning eroticism and colors that pop like a whore's lip gloss!" says Rolling Stone's Peter Travers. "See it... then see it again!" (Time Out New York)

Lynch was having a WTF moment - MTLQC
Quite honestly...I wonder what Lynch or the script writer were smoking when they made this movie...probably the lesbian scene was interesting, but then again, if I wanted lesbian scenes I´d rather get a lesbian porno flick and have the real thing. I guess Lynch was trying hard to be Buñuel...but then again, thgere is only one Buñuel and he has been dead for decadesInteresting - eli_quincy
Mulholland Drive is divisive for obvious reasons -- even for fans of David Lynch, who might consider it one of his most mainstream movies. While I'm a fan of Lynch (especially Twin Peaks), I have to say that Mulholland Drive could be considered his big-screen masterpiece. It's a twisty thriller that's just beautifully shot and acted, with a wonderful soundtrack to boot. It might not make much sense the first time through, but it's so entertaining, you likely won't mind.A Beautiful, Frightening Mind Bender - JasonTHX
People ask me what I consider the best movie of this new millenium. I always surprise them with my answer - which is David Lynch's "Mulholland Drive", a twisty, beautiful, hypnotic, atmospheric mind puzzler that will shake the nerves of anyone who surrenders to this masterwork.
What's funny about my answer is that "Mulholland Drive" was never meant to be a movie. It was intended as a pilot for ABC in the fall of 1999 but unlike Lynch's previous ABC series "Twin Peaks" ABC didn't even put it on the air. Idiots! It seemed Lynch's pilot would never be seen. After meeting a french financier he told Lynch if he put in a nude scene (Ah, those french) he'd finance the rest of the movie. ABC's loss is movielover's gain. How could a Pilot meant for TV become the best movie of the past seven years? The answer lies in the stunning, involving story by Lynch and his two stars. The then unknown Naomi Watts and smoulderingly sexy Laura Elena Harring.
Watts plays Betty, a new to L.A. starlet hoping to make a go as an actress. She comes upon Rita (Harring) a sultry amnesiac brunette unsure of her indentity. The two babes in woods try to find out Rita's indentity in sun-drenched, sleepy afternoon L.A. and what they find begins to turn their exzistence inside out, upside down. Culminating in an ending that leaves us wondering what is it we have just witnessed?
The internet is full of theories on this movie. What parts are real, what aren't. What certain objects symbolize, whose story is being told, whose dream the events in the movie belong to. Which one of the two sets of main characters are real or imagined. You could spend days and weeks reading about clues and reading thoughts as to what is being shown. I have my own theory - I don't know how well it stacks up and I won't give it away. (Hint: Homeless person Behind "Twinkies").
It sounds complicated but in the hands of a master storyteller like Lynch we are grateful for the experience.
