Secondhand Lions
"One of the year's happiest movies."-Gene Shalit, Today Show
For young Walter, (Haley Joel Osment), being stuck in his "crazy" uncles' farm is the last place on earth he wants to spend the summer. First, shocked by their unconventional behavior, including ordering an African lion through the mail, Walter soon gets caught up in their mysterious past. The rumors that his uncles (Academy Award winners Robert Duvall and Michael Caine) were bank robbers or maybe even worse are hard to believe, but they do seem to have an endless supply of cash!
Little by little, an amazing story comes to life - filled with adventures in exotic lands involving kidnapped princesses, Arabian sheiks and lost treasure. These tales not only bring him closer to his uncles but also teach him what it means to believe in something... whether it's true or not.

wonderful family movie - TickTockMomma
We enjoyed this movie with our two boys, age 9 and 12. They thought it was great. Not sappy, a coming of age movie. Good story, GREAT acting by the whole cast, many funny moments. Watch it! The funniest part was the gardening scene, where they discover a significant problem with the seeds that they have planted. The action/adventure scenes were hilarious, especially the rescue from the dungeon.Love this movie - eleanorm
It's incredible how two really great actors can turn a series of unbelievable "fish stories" into a movie that draws you into a mesmerizing tale. tt's a bit like Sheherazade -- improbable stories told against a background of everyday life. The entire context -- bizarre old house totally isolated on a Texas landscape so isolated that even an old lion can live out her last days in peace -- separates you from reality. Are the flashbacks just told to divert the boy from his seeking to find the secret of Jasmine"?
Are the old men with lots of cash at their disposal really bank robbers with murder on their hands? More questions than answers until the last scene -- and I must admit that I wish the movie had ended before the last scene. I would have preferred
to wonder about those flashbacks.
Four stars for this movieSomewhere between Princess Diaries and big Fish - Trixnbun
A great movie, but if you're looking for action and excitement pass it by. My 9 year old sat down to watch it part way in and was mesmerized. I loved the stories that seemed so much bigger then life, remembering what it was like to be a child and hear the stories told to you by the elders, you thought in your mind that they can't be true but held to the belief that they just might.
This movie is about the magic of childhood, of hope, belief, and going back and forth between the stories of the past and the current was great.. the lion .. enough said
