Monsoon Wedding
Set in Delhi during a Punjabi wedding, this is a rare cinematic glimpse into the realities of an urban Indian family.
Mira Nair’s film centers around the marriage of Aditi (Vasundhara Das) to Hemant (Parvin Dabas), but its heart is found in the supporting characters – an eccentric wedding planner who falls for a quiet maid; a loving father (Naseerudin Shah) who wants to do the best for his daughter but struggles with his financial limitations; and an earthy cousin who holds a secret about her family that could destroy family ties and the wedding. This film was featured at the Toronto Film Festival in 2001.

Slice of Life glimpse into the lives of a large family during the week of a wedding, including a side story involving the hired help.
Nice balance of drama and humour, that is far more entertaining than the current convention of a 'shocking twist.' While I didn't always follow who was which relative, the main characters are easy to follow and understand. They really seem to be familiar and at ease, like a real family.
Nothing is wasted, with all the scenes and dialogue being just enough to illustrate.
And, with one glaring exception, these are decent, kind people, who show wisdom in their decisions. I enjoyed spending time with them.colourful and joyful - aisha_bee
this movie throws you in the middle of a story at lets you figure out what's happening by yourself. we meet a bride-to-be and her family. the marriage is arranged and the lifestyle hectic, with everyone demanding attention and not enough people to provide it. the bride has a lover, who is married, but still agrees to the arranged marriage because she's not willing to spend the rest of her life waiting for her lover's divorce. smart girl. the groom-to-be is adorable, cute, smart, rich, and lives in america. the perfect catch. they get along. everyone ends up getting along. eventually. it's a movie about family values, protecting whom you love, going afer what you want, and love. or at least the hope of it.A fun movie about love & family - KW--
This movie was very enjoyable - it focuses on a wedding, but the true story in the end is the love of families and staying by each other at all costs. There are several main characters in this movie, all with their own story, which can make things a bit confusing at times. In the end it all comes together and gives you a warm feeling!
