I'm an anglophone Quebecer. The main character's french was terrible. No matter what they say this isn't a Canadian film, if it were then the main character would have known how to speak french, let alone with "une accent Quebecoise". Not only that but she's wandering around Toronto and no one speaks french at all, poor representation of Torontonians. Also most francophone Quebecers speak enough english to get by. This further proves the writer/director's poor representation of Canadians. Don't waste your time, money or the braincells that you'll lose watching this terrible movie.
All the copies should be collected up into a pile, doused with gasoline and burnt for the good of humanity.Bad Québécois accent - Alex5
I was really disapointed with this movie, especially since I'm a big McDonald fan. I think that my biggest problem was with Juliette Lewis' accent: it wasn't very good. Well, it wasn't bad but it was more like a really good imitation - not convincing enough, though. I don't understand why McDonald didn't cast a well-know Québecoise.A really good film - MPots
As a rule I'm not a fan of thrillers but I had a great time watching this film. The story is engrossing if not brilliant and the acting, overall, is terrific.
The villain is a bit hokey and Juliette Lewis does not quite pull off the Quebec accent, but she's excellent for the part so I suspended my disbelief anyway. Mickey Rooney is also great for the 3-4 minutes he's actually in the film.
I might not be a fan of thrillers but I am a fan of Bruce McDonald. He didn't let me down here. I loved the way he let us "into" the characters' heads and I thought the effects in this film were just great, as much a part of the storytelling as the film.
It's different in a good way, it's not what you'd expect, and it's just a really good film. well worth it.
