Sunshine
In A Time Of Revolution, In A Family Torn By Tradition, One Man Was Consumed By Love.
When great-grandpa Sonnenschein (the name means "sunshine") bottled the cure-all elixir "A Taste Of Sunshine," he established a family fortune and assumed his sons would continue the business. But great-grandpa's sons -- and family members to come -- had very different hopes and dreams.
Ralph Fiennes (The English Patient) plays not one, but three roles in this compelling and acclaimed epic about a Jewish family caught up in the upheavals and false hopes of the war-swept 20th century. A distinguished cast joins Fiennes, including Jennifer Ehle as free-spirited young Valerie, Rosemary Harris (Ehle's real-life mother) as the Valerie of later years, and William Hurt as a war survivor whose new post as a communist official gives him power over his former enemies.

Ralph Fiennes did a superb job in portraying 3 different men in 3 different generations. When I first read the discription of the movie and read that Fiennes would be playing the 3 main characters I imagined that it would become confusing. But somehow Fiennes was able to differentiate each character, although they were all from the same family and dealing with very similar issues.A powerful and disturbing film. - Frank_Ricard
As we are now over 60 years past the Second World War, knowledge and understanding of the Holocaust is slipping away. This film is a brutal but important reminder.
I found this film to be a very powerful testament to the ongoing persecution Jews have had to face throughout history.
As the rating suggests, this is not a film for children or those with tender sensibilities. It is at times brutal, disturbing and - throughout - very saddening.
An important film that everyone should see.Compelling, powerful and insightful… - Terry2
“Sunshine” is a forceful and wonderful film that follows four generations of a Jewish Hungarian family through seventy tumultuous years of Hungarian history. The story is extremely well done with rich finely etched characters. Hungarian Writer/Director Istvan Szabo captures Hungary's turbulent transition from empire to fascist state to soviet satellite weaving the history of the times into the lives of this extraordinary family.
Ralph Fiennes gives three incredible performances as the grandfather, father and son of the patriarchy.
Supported by an exceptional cast... Rosemary Harris, Rachel Weisz, Jennifer Ehle, William Hurt. Very good movie. Highly recommended.
