Not worth it - eoguy

Vulgar is exactly what this movie is. I am a big Kevin Smith/Clerks/View Askew fan, I think I have a pretty disturbed sense of humor, but I did not find anything remotely funny in this movie. I must admit I only endured 45 minutes of it and said forget it. This movie looks like some high schoolers got together and filmed it around their neighborhood. Sad and disturbing but not at all a "dark comedy."

Ugly waste of talent (and time) - JasonTHX

I'm a big Kevin Smith fan. Lowbrow? he sure can be, but he's also a helluva great writer for dialogue. It's not Mametesque, it's not ever Tarantinoesque, but it does work in many of his movies - specifically Dogma in which the communication is the key ingredient. This is where Vulgar fails miserably. There is not one joyful line of dialogue in the entire movie. It is dark, ugly, dirty and scuzzy. The characters are bottom feeders that frankly get no sympathy from this viewer. Nobody is interesting enough to care for. This movie is out to shock but unfortunately it doesn;t even succeed at that. There are many Fimiliar View-askewniverse faces in Vulgar but without Smith's magic words the actors are as flat as can be. This could have been a good satire instead it goes for shock and nihilism and nothing gels. I've enjoyed grungy, violent, stained but stylish movies like The Doom Generation and one wonders what this material might have been like if it had been handled by Greg Araki. It more than likely would not have felt this fake. Interestingly though the DVD contains a documentary on Smith's greatest movie Dogma. If you have to get this to see that well then my advice is skip Vulgar. It's obvious from the movie nobody had a good time making this. I know how they feel.

Only for those that are fans of Kevin Smith & the View Askew universe. You will recognize a few familar faces throughout the cast. It has a few moments but I think it's biggest problem that it doesn't really know what it wants to be. Most scenes have a similar feel to Smith's work but the once scene in particular is disturbing and didn't fit with the rest of the movie. I'd recommend it to those VA fans that want to see something just a bit different, plus there is a Kevin Smith & crew commentary which is always entertaining.
