Gothika is a spellbinding Supernatural suspense, Halle Berry proves she can do it all: Drama, thrillers and now horror.
I heard so much negative reviewd about this movie, i never gave the actors the benefit of the doubt to see it on my own and give it a fair chance. Boy was i taken back, this is 1 of the best scary thrillers i've seen in a longtime. The ending was agreat surprise. If you like twist endings and draul mono tones or a Penelope Cruz fan such as myself- this is your kind of movie.Eye Candy - 213468280576
Great visual movie. Worth seeing for Robert Downey, Jr.’s performance and the cool visual gimmicks. I good example of stylish, colorful horror without an excess of gore. There was some cool camera work and solid acting. Halle Barry did not intrude much on her character, Penelope Cruz was strangely magnetic and John Carrol Lynch did a passable job, not so belivable but certainly entertaining. A quite decent horror movie.
Why doesn't Halle Barry's character go to jail at the end though?A bad movie, but. . . - Ann-
“Gothika” is not a good movie. Nor is it quite as horrible as I had anticipated. There is a real story in this movie, if only writer and director had been able to figure out what that story was. Part ghost-story, part murder-mystery, “Gothika” plows onwards, heedless of common sense and character motivation.
Unresolved questions and ridiculous plot points abound. Should a psychologist really be hospitalized among her former patients? Penelope Cruz’s character may have made more sense if the movie had settled into a supernatural horror or murder mystery, rather than rambling back and forth between both genres. The reason behind Miranda’s haunting, and her husband’s murder, lacked in emotional depth (or surprise).
And yet. . . I didn’t find “Gothika” a complete waste of time. While not a fan of Halle Berry, I still felt her confusion and helplessness. Worse than the haunting, or her husband’s murder, is the loss of free will and self experienced by the patients at the institute. Now *that* is creepy.
