This is one of those movies that you must watch every year around the holiday season. It is obvious people loved this movie considering all the movies that have now been made with the same style in mind, though none come close. It offers a diverse array of stories to follow, some light and funny, others more complex and emotional. It goes without saying that when Christmas is on the way, I watch Love Actually. I have never really seen a movie that compares to this wonderful film. This was an absolutely WONDERFUL movie!!! I heartily recommend it to everyone. Yes, it probably would be considered a bit of a chick flick... it is, after all, a paean to love.
In brief, the movie is composed of many different storylines, which all illustrate different aspects of love within relationships. A mature love which is tested, a love which communicates without language, an unrequited love, a non-sexual love between old acquaintances. This movie has some truly funny bits courtesy of Bill Nighy, portraying an addled, old rock musician striving for a comeback. This movie has a stellar cast: Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson and Hugh Grant. While they don't all have a chance to exercise their considerable acting talents with such short vignettes, it's still a pleasure to watch these screen veterans at work.
