My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Love is here to stay... so is her family.
Toula is 30. And unmarried. Which means as a nice Greek girl-she's a failure. all her cousins did the right thing-married Greek boys and made Greek babies. So everyone worries: what will become of Toula?
Then one day she sees the ultimate unattainable guy and realizes the only way her life will get better is if she gets away from her big, fat Greek family. Toula escapes from the family restaurant. She exchanges her seating hostess jacket for a college diploma, convinces her aunt to giver he a new job, and trades in her coke-bottle glasses for contact lenses, just in time for "him" to walk back into her life.
Ian Miller is tall, handsome but definitely not Greek. Their courtship is an Olympian culture clash. Can Ian handle Toula, her parents, her aunts, uncles, cousins and several centuries of Greek heritage? Will Toula discover the love she's been missing right in the heart of her big, fat family?
One thing is for sure, for better or worse, richer or poorer, with Ian's proposal, Toula is headed for her big, fat Greek wedding.

Have this DVD, but wish I didn't - Silverthorn
I bought this DVD on eBay probably in 2004 ish because it was a good deal. After watching it once, I was really disappointed and embarassed that I did watch it. Even my mother thought it was one of the worst films ever made. I look at the recent reviews of this film on Zip.ca and see that many gave it fives. I'm not sure if they were watching the same movie as me, but I didn't laugh once. Many others may like it but I felt this was an overrated film. The best way to know is to watch it yourself. I'm one man's opinion, but I didn't think the film was great or even good, or even satisfactory. The neck can turn the head which ever way she wants! - hilkayaker
This movie is so funny. Such a great show of an outgoing Greek culture trying to integrate with an modest American culture in one family. Great laughs awesome quotes. Even a really cute story as to how the movie came about and how hard Nia Vardolas worked to get a company to pick up the movie and keep the family Greek (instead of Italian as everyone wanted to change it to) and able to keep her as the star thanks to Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks. Very cute wedding story, totally sweet for a girls night!Entertaining And Fast Paced - revsdd
I really enjoyed this movie, based on the real-life experiences of Nia Vardalos, who wrote the script and starred as Toula, a 30ish Greek woman, apparently destined to life without marriage, who suddenly meets and falls in love with Ian (John Corbett) who - to the horror of Toula's traditional Greek father (Michael Constantine) - is not Greek! This very funny movie follows Toula as she tries to overcome her family's hesitance about the marriage across ethnic lines and only-child Ian, raised by quiet and introverted and now bewildered parents (played magnificently, by the way by Bruce Gray and Fiona Reid) as he tries to adjust to becoming a part of this big, boisterous family.
This movie has a bit of everything you want for an evening of entertainment. It's funny. It's romantic. It's touching. There's nothing in it that would prevent you from watching it with your kids. It's just a fun 90 minute romp. (If I have any criticism of it at all, it would be that it's a bit too frenetic and fast-paced in some ways. How did Toula's father come around so quickly? How did the wedding day appear so suddenly?)
A very entertaining movie.
