Last Wedding
...till death do us part...
Bruce Sweeney's Last Wedding takes a wry look at contemporary relationships through the experiences of three thirty-something couples, two happily partnered and the third about to walk into a marital disaster. Against all advice, the wedding goes ahead, but it is not only the newlyweds for feel the strain. The honey moon is barely over before doubt, jealousy, and infidelity bring all three relationships to the point of implosion.

This movie was meant to show the complexities of marriage, of merging your life with somebody else's. It did do that, but in a very vague way. The characterization is very poor, and I was left not knowing the motivation behind the way these people were behaving, especially of Zipporah, who went from a happy bride to a couch potato prone to fits of physical violence. Molly Parker, as usual, was incandescent, but even she couldn't elevate this movie to the fresh, astute piece it was supposed to be.Solid Canadian cinema! - crafty876
Highly enjoyable film! It is a little cinema gem and is proudly canadian in nature. Its characters are intelligent and witty. Their relationships, as themselves, were realistic, "normal". The relationships between the characters were presented in a balanced fashion. Rather than being a faceless, nameless city, Vancouver gets top billing. It figures prominently in one exceptional scene, where the characters discuss the merits of modern urban planning versus perservation of historic buildings/sites (discussions being held in many of Canada's major urban centers). The movie made for interesting discussions with my spouse regarding relationships and the fate of our cities.Don't be dissuaded by the "two-star" rating given to this movie by the "Zip.ca" members.
