there was some real truth and honesty in these relaxed and passionate discussions.i learned that the film industry doesn't depict stories about older women because the market is aimed at a much younger male crowd. this makes sense.you do really have to search for deep films with older women in them.once an actress turns 40,she has to retire unless she is super famous, but an older male actor can look like a turnip and still get parts.Film not as advertised - jillabeer
The concept of this film really intrigued me - can you commit yourself fully to creative work and have something left over to give in your personal life? But as the film progressed, the actual topic of discussion got lost in a myriad of complaints about the limits the American film industry places on women as they age. While these are valid issues and worthy of lengthy discussion, all it serves to do in this context is take away from the subject at hand. The filmmaker shows a lack of focus (why is Roger Ebert even in this film?) and it is unfortunate as the intended subject is something that many people can connect with no matter their profession or gender. Cinema is an amazing tool to discuss and reflect upon our social challenges, be it in documentary or narrative form, here it's simply misused.Females only - Gilchrist
While I enjoyed the perspective of middle aged actresses talking about their frustrations in finding parts at their age my boyfriend lasted about 15 minutes. Sharon Stone was particularly articulate and Whoopi Goldberg hilarious. It was brutal seeing what Melanie Griffith and Meg Ryan had done to their lips.
Overall a good film.
