Trail of the Pink Panther
"Uproarious! Huge Fun!" -The New York Times
Inspector Clouseau, the lovable buffoon with a knack for mispronunciation, is MIA! The terrifically talented Peter Sellers "induces gales of tonic laughter" (The Hollywood Reporter) in this wild adventure co-starring the full Panther ensemble cast, including David Niven, Herbert Lom, Burt Kwouk and Capucine, along with newcomers Joanna Lumley, Richard Mulligan and Harvey Korman.
The Pink Panther diamond goes missing - and then en route to the scene of the crime, Clouseau's plane goes missing! A sleuthing reporter (Lumley) is assigned to memorialize the fabled detective, but in the process, she comes up against some strange behavior from a delirious Dreyfus (Lom) as well as Clouseau's duplicitous ex-wife (Capucine), his lusty father (Mulligan) and The Phantom (Niven)!
This film was made after Peter Sellers' death, with all his scenes in film consisting of outtakes and deleted footage from other Pink Panther films.

This film was a big cut and paste calloge. - movie_goer
Despite having died a year and a half before shooting began, Peter Sellers appears in this film via outtakes and alternate takes from the previous films in the series.
Other characters appear in new footage (Visibly aged since the first film 17 years prior) to link the Sellers material together...was a mess. Most of Sellers stuff is all useless physical humor with no real plot, or doubled by a lookalike wrapped like a mummy because saying anything would showcase that he is not in this new movie. The incorporated interviews with David Niven & Burt Kwouk remenise about the longtime dear friend and comedians silly antics and memorable traits. Even Robert Webber seems lost with out Inspector Clousseau to drive him insane.
The final credits showcase extra NEVER before seen outakes of the late Sellers doing what he did best: goofing around and making others laugh.
I can't decide if Eward Blake resurrected the late Sellers for personal gain to a failing directing career and financial gain or for others to remember Sellers? Perhaps both (thats a mystery in itself).Basically a big mess - Superdave
Sellers' death could not stop the popular Pink Panther series, but it certainly made things awkward, as this rather sloppy exercise demonstrates. The approach steals its structure from Citizen Kane - Joanna Lumley stars as a reporter seeking to uncover the truth behind Clouseau's disappearance, through interviews with other characters from the series: Kato, Dreyfus, the Phantom, etc. and slowly builds a portrait of Clouseau as a spectacular bungler, despised by those he crossed paths with. But the result is certainly no Citizen Kane II; it's really a slow, unfunny and meandering mess, plus we knew all of this stuff anyway. Sellers appears in outtakes from the other movies, giving us a glimpse of his comic genius, but honestly there is little here that we haven't seen before and done better. The only excuse for this exercise in cinematic necrophilia is to make a few bucks posthumously off Sellers' fans' good will. Don't be suckered. Watch the other series entries and stop there. All the Pink Panther movies are hilarious. I do prefer the earlier films - this one does suffer a bit from the fact that Sellers was not actively involved, having passed away a few years earlier. I still think fans will want to watch the whole series though.
