Tokyo Godfathers
Meet the ultimate dysfunctional family.
From acclaimed director Satoshi Kon (Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress) and Japan's leading animation studio Mad House (X, Vampire Hunter D, Ninja Scroll) comes this visually and emotionally stunning tale of adventure, love and redemption.
In Tokyo, three homeless people's lives are changed forever when they discover a baby girl at a garbage dump on Christmas Eve. As the New Year fast approaches, these three forgotten members of society band together to solve the mystery of the abandoned child and the fate of her parents. Along the way, encounters with seemingly unrelated events and people force them to confront their own haunted pasts, as they learn to face their future together.

Subtitled. Definitely a mature themed anime movie, for teens & older audiences. Profanity, some nudity, mature themes. This said, definitely a great movie for anime fans. More straight forward narrative and more of a defined plot compared to some other Satoshi Kon movies. Really draws you in & makes you care about what happens to the characters. Humour and action-filled. Beautifully made - visually extremely well done - very nice 2D animation.Loved it - Jujubes
I am not into the 'younger' animes and love the more mature themes and Tokyo Godfathers is one of the more serious animes that I loved (my other favs are Perfect Blue, the Millenium Actress, Kite). The story is endearing and engrossing, with a bunch of very likeable characters. This is the kind of anime I wish they would make more of than the silly juvenile ones with nothing but big breasted girls.Mainstream Anime at its Best - BuddhaBoy
As anime goes, this is pretty high-class. Extraordinary graphics, deep backgrounds, complex narrative and charming well-fleshed-out characters. I found the narrative typically muddy and, at times, confusing.
The main criticism would be the failure to wrap up the Hana character as tidily as the other two lead characters.
Even for non-anime fans, this will likely satisfy.
