Nil By Mouth
"The most intense film of the year." - The New York Times
The dramatically brutal life of a family struggling to get by in South London is unflinchingly depicted in Gary Oldman's debut feature as writer/director. In a moving performance for which she was named Best Acterss at the Cannes Film Festival, Kathy Burke stars with Ray Winstone, Charlie Creed-Miles, Laila Morse and Edna Dore in this story of love, dependency, abuse and poverty. Nil By Mouth features an acclaimed musical score by Eric Clapton.

harsh is a great word to describe this film. this isn't no cookie cutter happy go lucky film. harsh and stark and real. this movie defiantly is not for everyone
and if you somehow liked this movie and if you haven't already. find Once Were Warriors and check that out.A grim reality - BabyBoomer
The film is a far too realistic portrayal of lives and environments that most of us know exist but would rather not face. Alcoholic drug addicts, wife beating, vulgar dialog, people living in filth, children forced to cope in that environment, this film has it all and tells it like it is. Very depressing and disturbing to watch.
Yet somewhere in all of this was also the thread that there are always friendships and loyalties (no matter how misguided) that help individuals to cope. Within the filth, humanity?
From a technical point of view, photography, acting, screenplay, the film is high quality. In deciding to watch this film read the content warning carefully.
My rating for the film of one star is based on my need to be entertained, which I wasn’ta must! - luciolia
a must it's all i have to say...this movie even made me come here to write the first review..the tension, the pictured reality, the coldness of humanity, it's fragilities... make this film a must to see...for those who don't comprehend..how do you think it's life for many? this story doens't have artefacts, special effects neither beauty creams...it's life.
