A very tight thriller but I can't help feeling that the Wachowski Brothers have a kind of immature perspective on lesbians. They don't really try to understand what brings two women together romantically. They just make one of them extremely butch and the other the "closet" type. So as much as people have a tendency to praise this film for using a lesbian relationship, I would criticise it for using it exploitively.A Fine Thriller with Solid Direction - MadMax
This tight thriller that showcases two women scamming the mob is a strong directorial debut from the two brothers who would go on to create The Matrix films.
It's good to see Jennifer Tilley in a role that requires more than just her great looks. IT's too bad she doesn't get to showcase her acting talents as much as her 'other' talents.
A hidden gem that you should defintely try and find for a rainy night.Joey Pants and a couple of hot chicks - johnn_b
This is a great noir thriller with a love story at its heart. Once thing that sets it apart is that the love story involves lesbians. This is not done just for perverse eye-candy appeal, though there is that; these are possibly the best and most realisitc lesbian portrayals on film. Any movie that has sex educator/porno performance artist Annie Bright as a "technical consultant" is on the right track. The noir thriller part is properly nailed, too. Joey Pantoliano carries the movie as the male lead with a perfect performance. The plot is twisty and exciting, the girls are great to look at, there are wonderful character actors and even a couple of hot love scenes. The commentary is pleasantly laid back, with cast members showing up late and one at a time until it sounds like a small party going on.All in all this is a very satisfying film experience. For comparison, check out Prizzi's Honor. The Wachowskis also mention Double Indemnity as an influence.
