Summer heats up in rural Louisiana beside Eve's Bayou as the Bastiste family tries to survive the secrets they've kept and the betrayals they've endured. Roz Batiste (Lynn Whitfield) is a beautiful and dedicated mother of three, who is forced to admit that her family is falling apart due to her philandering husband Louis (Samuel L. Jackson). Her younger daughter, Eve, witnesses one of her father's infidelities. Struggling to make sense of what she has seen, Eve turns to her older sister Cisely, who dismisses her fear of the truth, and then to her Aunt Mozelle (Debbie Morgan), a known psychic and rumored black widow. Unable to find the understanding that she is looking for, Eve decides to take matters into her own hands.

Story of a turbulent summer for a rural Louisiana family seen through the eyes and memories of ten year old girl named Eve (Jurnee Smollett). Eve’s father (Samuel L Jackson) is a doctor who cannot keep his hands off his female patients and her mother (Lynn Whitfield) has become fiercely overprotective of her three children as a result of a vision by her sister-in-law (Debbi Morgan) a gifted but cursed psychic who occasionally dabbles in voodoo. More so than in most films the story as it is presented is not intended to be accepted as a literal retelling of events, it is meant to be seen as a story made up of memories colored by its narrator in which visions, spirituality and voodoo all play a part.
The performances by both Samuel L Jackson and Jurnee Smollet are very good. It is a beautifully shot film that features some very good music all of which helps it to so effectively portray its setting which along with the storytelling and the performances is the greatest strength of the film.
This was Kasi Lemons first directorial effort, she is also an actress probably best known as Jodie Foster’s roommate in ‘Silence of the Lambs’. Subsequently Kasi has continued to act and gone on to direct ‘The Caveman’s Valentine’ and ‘Talk to Me’. Also while Jurnee hasn’t become a household name she continues to appear regularly in feature films and television and has won 3 Image Awards following her nominations for “Eve’s Bayou”.Trite & Tedious - Ilovemovies
You know the plot of this movie well before it occurs, except for the resolution which, frankly, is offensive. SPOILER: it's never the fault of the man since women are always the provocateurs.

One of the most powerful and strikingly potent film with strong effects that make you never blink a eye or forget a beat. It's Ground breaking. Eve Bayou is a young girl who's father (Samel. L Jackson) carry's many secrets in his closet. Eve's Aunt is Physhic but blind to her own life after cursed with 3 dead husbands.
Eve character is conflicted after finding the missing links and troubling secrets, enraged she calls apon Voodoo oddly enough it comes true. But not without back lash, and more complicating truth..
