This is a really fun movie about highstakes gambling and hustling. The movie splits into two halves, the first half is a team of hustlers rigging an exclusive card game and the other half is about the "mechanic" going toe to toe with the "Dean" played by Stallone in a poker match. There are lots of surprises along the way including doublecrosses, unlikely alliances and deceit. The acting is okay, the soundtrack didn't stick with me in any way and the visuals are what you'd expect of bars and pokers rooms.Underground, Low Budget Surprise - AceHigh
This movie, (as far as I know) was not released in theatres. The reason for my 4 star rating is due to the fact that this movie was overlooked and for the most part unheard of by many.
SHADE has an All-Star cast and detailed storyline. Before watching the film I read many reviews talking about "if you love poker, you'll enjoy this film" although I don't argue that; I personally don't play or watch poker, but enjoyed this movie as a crime story.
All in all, this movie does fail in delivering a full blown knockout punch and the story can seem to be loose at times and lack intensity. But in the end I enjoyed it for it's originality, unpredictability and great acting. Overall it is an enjoyable crime story with good performance all around. Good to see Stallone in another Crime story, (like in Get Carter).Astonishingly dull - superkev
With a cast like this, and a premise of high-stakes gambling gone wrong, you'd expect an exciting romp on the seedy side of the poker table. But, what this film delivers is actually thoroughly boring. The pace is slow, the acting stunted, and the direction uninspired. The music plays faintly in the background, seeming timid and afraid to interrupt the nonexistent action on screen. Each shot seemed to be held too long, panned too slowly, and awkwardly edited to boot. This is how not to make an interesting movie. Pass on it.
