Girl With a Pearl Earring
Beauty Inspires Obsession.
Delft, Holland, 1665. Seventeen-year old Griet must work to support her family and becomes a maid in the house of Johannes Vermeer, where she gradually attracts the master painter's attention. Johannes and Griet must hide their inspiration of each other from his volatile wife Catharina. The wealthy and troublemaking Master van Ruijven sense the intimacy between the artist and his maid and contrives a commission for Vermeer to paint Griet alone. The result will be one of the greatest paintings ever created, but at what cost?

So close, yet so far from becoming a Masterpiece - movie_goer
This fictionalised version of characters and events surrounding the creation of Vermeer's masterpiece is a cinematographer's work of art.
This movie, in my humble opinion, is targeted for audience with peculiar sense. The pearl's value didn't quite add up to much entertainment, and the earring was not as close to heart as it was to ears.
I was a bit disappointed for sure by the time the movie abruptly ended. I wasn't as much surprised as displeased by its abrupt ending.visually pleasant - deb1
I enjoyed this movie for its time period setting mostly. The acting was fine, but it seemed like a stretch to make a movie out of this. Yes the painting are beautiful and its interesting to find out what inspired this particular painting, but really not much happens.A beautiful film to get lost in - Chris13
On one hand this is a simple movie about an artist painting a (for its time) a groundbreaking portrait of a housekeeper. The real thrill in watching this movie is getting completely lost in the seventeenth century. It's like stepping back in time and getting an experience of what it was like to live in Holland in the 1600's. The lighting and cinematography are amoung the best I have ever seen. Rent this when you want to settle in and get completely absorbed in a period piece.
