Welcome To Mooseport
Cast your ballot for big laughs when Gene Hackman and Ray Romano find themselves in a hilariously heated race for mayor of Mooseport, Maine. A local plumber (Romano) is plunged into the national spotlight when he takes on the former President of the United States (Hackman), who can't believe he's running against the man installing his toilet! To make matters worse, the ex-prez is trying to steal the election -- and the affection of the handyman's girlfriend (Maura Tierney). Whoever wins, one thing's for sure: this town isn't small enough for the both of them!

Mooseport will never be confused with a Good Movie - TheShamus
I reserve one star ratings for the absolute worst movies. Mooseport does not deserve to relegated to the garbage pile (there are much worse movies out there).
I am positive there there is an audience out there for a cute, folksy, homey movie like Mooseport. It is more like a long TV episode -- and very much like what you see in the movie "Everyone Loves Raymond".
This movie is "light" and "fluffy" -- something safe to watch with your grandmother. There are some Canadian locations and a few Canadian "bit parts" -- but nothing to make you run out an rent the movie for that reason alone.
This movie does not fit my tastes, and given the chance, I would rent something else. However, I did watch it all the way through and my wife thought it was okay.
I'm confident there is an audience for this type of situation comedy (just not with me).

It's esy to see why Dustin Hoffman, originally cast in the Gene Hackman role, backed out a short time into production. I kept stopping the DVD at 26 minute intervales with the urge for a cup of coffee (to stay awake) or something to munch (to stay awake)or a less comfortable position on the couch (to stay awake)...must have been the reaction of my subconscious thinking I was watching an "Everybody Loves Raymond Fest". I had the creepy sense that Frank and Marie were about to appear, and berate the poor plumber for cheating on Deborah, and running for mayor when he should have been at home with Allie and The Twins. The movie was funny in a few spots; blatantly stupid in others -- yes, there were lots of "name's on the tip of my tongue" recognizable Canadaian actors (like Jane Eastwood) -- but didn't see them credited -- some nice shots on Toronto Island, tho. but the scenery certainly isn't worth the watch.
