3 Women
In a dusty, under-populated California resort town, Pinky Rose (Sissy Spacek), a naïve and impressionable Southern waif begins her life as a nursing home attendant. There, Pinky finds her role model in fellow nurse "Thoroughly Modern" Millie Lammoreaux (Shelley Duvall), a misguided would-be sophisticate and hopeless devotee of Cosmopolitan and Woman’s Day magazines. When Millie accepts Pinky into her home at the Purple Sage singles’ complex, Pinky’s hero-worship evolves into something far stranger and more sinister than either could have anticipated. Featuring brilliant performances from Spacek and Duvall, Robert Altman’s dreamlike masterpiece, 3 Women, careens from the humorous to the chilling to the surreal, resulting in one of the most unusual and compelling films of the 1970s.

I must have missed something in this one. This movie was painfully void of explanation. There was no plot, not an ounce of logic, and it can only be categorized as one of those things that you have to complete because you just cannot believe that people would spend time and money creating such piece of drivel.3 Women - julianrjh
I looked for this movie for a long, long time, and was definitely not disappointed to finally find. What a great film! I don't know why I like watching it so much, but it's such an interesting, creepy little movie. Both Sissy Spacek and Shelley Duvall are excellent here - actually, I used to dislike Duvall quite a bit, but after this movie, I view her completely differently and have seen a few of her movies since and appreciate her a lot more. There's really nothing else to say, but watch it if you're in the mood for a movie that's unlike anything you've ever seen.Brilliant Movie and extremely forward thinking for its time. - michael3
It combines elements of personality theft and feminism.
It does not provide a neat and linear story line, rather requires the audience to be an active participant in deconstructing the context and meanings. Metaphors abound.
Although slow paced in the beginning I was drawn in and mesmerized as I was wondering where the film would take me.
Once the ending came, I still had to think about what had happened and why. Even after viewing it in its entirety, I walked away thinking about what it all means.
A very cerebral film that is textured. A great investigation of "femininity" and "womanhood".
